Welcome to Mrs. Lanni's Art Website! 
The Middle School Art Program:
 
Grade 6 Art- is an introductory course designed to introduce students to the elements and principles of design through art.  Students will use a variety of mediums and learn various techniques through numerous projects.  Also, students will develop their abilities to make critical judgments about art and understand/appreciate the influences of art history. 
 

Grade 7 Art:  is an intermediate course designed to build upon and increase the student’s knowledge of the elements and principles of design.  The familiarity will increase while using a variety of media and techniques. A continued emphasis on critical judgment is accompanied by an increased focus on art from other cultures.      

Grade 8 Art: is a course designed to expand the student’s knowledge, abilities, and critical judgment in art and to introduce new media and skills. Student will explore the following areas in Drawing & Painting, Sculpture & Pottery, and Crafts.    

Grading Policy:  All grades are project based and each project is worth 100 points.  All students are graded on four categories and each category is worth 25 points.  The following is a general outline of the four categories:

 
  1. Elements & Principles- specific art features necessary to complete project, using the whole piece of paper, making various sketches, etc. 
  2. Category 2 varies with each project- it might focus on originality, creativity, realism, and  specific features relating to particular mediums
  3. Craftsmanship & Skill- using the mediums successfully while exploring their potential, using mediums correctly, completing the project neatly, etc.
  4. Effort- followed all the directions, did your best, used All your class time wisely, always put 100% effort into every class, went above and beyond what was required, took pride in your work.

Homework & Extra Help:
 
  • There is no homework unless you are falling behind on a project.  You could take your work home, come during Study Hall, or before/after school to catch up on your work.
  • You can see us before or after school for extra help. We are available nearly every day; appointments are appreciated, but not necessary.
  
Expectations:  Students should…
 
  • Come prepared with a pencil, eraser, and black Sharpie 
  • Listen to directions at beginning of class then use your class time wisely to work on a project
  • Be responsible for cleaning up materials and taking care of the classroom
  • Be kind and respectful to each other

Materials needed for Class:
Students are required to come to class with a pencil, eraser, and black Sharpie marker. The black Sharpie marker is used for specific projects on an as needed basis.
